Ever One - Experience & Experiencer

After studying various things, the most obvious question that we all have is, what is my relationship with this world, with other human beings, this universe, etc.  Necessarily there is just one Existence. But the apparent division of Experiencer and Experiences is an illusion. There is just one whole Existence.

There are no two; there is just oneness, the whole existence.  Experiencer and Experience are only two aspects of Existence.  This is a very natural state, whether one realizes this oneness or not.  Primarily one must understand this is not the state of mind because the mind is a collection of various thoughts which keep changing, and hence it is not the state.  Some may fall into the trap of being an experiencer because that is the essential nature of Existence, so let me be the experiencer.  Again, a crucial point to note here is that "let me be the Experiencer" is also a thought in mind; hence it is not permanent.

Also, just being an experiencer, the experiences are left out, and how can there be any oneness.  As we have seen that only for the purpose of study that we began with this differentiation of Experiencer and Experience, also it can be concluded that there can be neither Experiencer nor Experience without each other.  They are one whole, and there can be no division whatsoever other than a thought in mind.  This cannot be achieved through training the mind because it is beyond the mind.

Truly speaking, we cannot establish the Nondual nature because it is already Nondual.  Only when there are two, the unification can be done or happen, but when there is no separation, how can anyone become one or make it.  These are various thoughts in mind to put an effort to establish Nonduality. However, when the doing stops, effort is ceased, the Nondual nature shines forth.  This understanding of Oneness happens through direct experience and logic; also, Self-realization is the primary requirement to understand this Oneness.

Nonduality is the ever-lasting experience of all of us.  There is this Oneness right here and now.  It is only this Experiencing that is continuously happening.  None of us have or can see the experience on one side and the experiencer on the other side. Whenever there is an Experience, Experiencer is right there by default.  There can be no situation or event that can be established without either of the ones not being present. Only because of the conditioning, we have not been able to see this Oneness is ever-present.  Also, if we closely examine when there is experiencing, doership thought is an afterthought. And while thinking, thought is also a simple experiencing happening.  It is a continuous flow of consciousness with emptiness at both ends.  Neither objects nor the subject is paid any attention to when there is a flow of happenings.

Direct Experience is the primary way of knowing this oneness.  But we fail miserably in this feat, only because of the mind's conditioning with beliefs and this Oneness is completely ignored, thus forms the ignorance.  Layer after layer of conditioning gets piled up on the mind that this ever-shining oneness is completely veiled. By waking in the Path of Knowledge, most of the beliefs and overlays of mind would get cleared.  Because of the indoctrination of concepts, the mind is unable to even think about Oneness.  This subject may seem like another concept and a mystical belief.  Once these impressions are cleared from the mind, this Oneness is seen.  What there is all the time is Experiencing without the separation of Experiencer or Experience.  When one is engrossed in any kind of work or activity, there is completely no separation, and this is true right here, right now and all the time.  But because of our conditioning, the mind tends to separate the two, which can never be separated.  There is this everlasting union and Oneness alone.

However, due to incorrect understanding, some seekers try to achieve this oneness state.  That is simply impossible because, firstly this, not a state of mind and secondly, if someone is saying that he or she achieved a state without any experiences or thoughts, it only means that person has witnessed the state of blankness, and this is an experience again, which got impressed in mind and that is being replayed from memory as a state of Experiencer.

Again if we want to analyze Nonduality logically, we would end at the same position.  Through our direct experience, we have clearly seen that Experiencing there is, and the bifurcation as Experiencer and Experience is only for the purpose of the study.  In reality, there are no two; it is just one.  If we approach logically, say who or what came first, was it experience or experiencer, we would not be able to establish any concrete facts here.  Because we can never find either of the two aspects separate or without each other.  All the demarcations of I the experiencer and my experiences are mere mental activity.  Mind again is an object of experience, so when we use the mind to analyze logically, then again, it is the experiencer and experience that shows up together.  If there were two realities, say that an independent material world exists, why is there a need for another reality as an experiencer? Experience is there only because of experiencer. Though Experiencer is empty, but it is full of possibilities.

The experiencer is self-conscious and experiencing itself.  Experiences don't have their own independent existence.  Experiences are merely present to consciously make aware the Experiencer of its own existence.  The possibility of the independent material world's existence is an impossible fantasy to establish because who is there to see or perceive it and prove its existence. Thence Experiencer is the True Nature of reality and thus establishes the One Reality.   Also, we clearly see that experiences are illusory and false and they come and go; what remains is the Experiencing; thus, it proves that it is only one reality and Oneness; Experiencer provides reality to experiences in itself, and Nonduality alone remains.

And another way to establish this oneness or see that it is only this nonduality all the time, we can try to separate the Experiencer from experience by using various parameters.  For, e.g., we can say how far is the experiencer from experience.  If one says that I am 3 meters away from the object that I am looking at, then the Experiencer has stepped down to the body's level and identifies the body as itself, then the objects may be spatially separate.  However, we have done an elaborate study to know our true or essential nature is that of Experiencer.  And now, from Experiencer, we see the Experience is right here where I am and now when I am present.
We ignored this Oneness simply because the knowledge of this oneness has got diluted in society, and we have got caught up in the world of subjects and objects separation. Objects can be separate from one another, but there is no difference between Experiencer or Experience in Experiencing.

Nondualism is not a Belief System.  It is the ever-present reality.  After a careful and systematic study, we have clearly seen that there can only be Nonduality and nothing else.  We could logically and experientially establish that experiences can only be illusory and false.  Other systems of philosophies facilitate building the foundation required to finally reach the one reality of Nondualism.

  1. You have so nicely captured the essence of non duality.

If this is understood, rest is only explanation.
